medical alert system for elderly parent

I'm looking for guidance from people with experience with those "Life Alert" type systems, where a person can press a button on a bracelet or necklace, speak to someone, and get help when needed. More inside. My wife's parents are declining rapidly. Her mom is about to move into a memory care unit at an excellent ALF/SNF. However, that will leave her dad alone in their condo. He is (so far) refusing to move to an ALF, certain he is perfectly fine. He is still very sharp and we can't say he is incompetent to make the decision; however, he is getting wobbly and has fallen twice in the last six-eight weeks. And without his wife there, he will have no one to help him up, call us or 911, etc., if he falls.

There are lots of such systems on the market, and a lot of conflicting info, further blurred by a blizzard of promotion-speak. Life Alert is the one everyone knows, but apparently it has slipped and has some egregious contract terms too. Wirecutter had a couple of recommendations but in the fine print, they note that they're revising their choices. I'd love to hear from anyone who has personal experience with these systems, or has an alternative idea. But it has to be pretty simple tech; this is a person who does not use a smartphone. Thanks for whatever info you can provide.
